Google: Google has killed yet another product: All the details – Times of India
Google and Glass are two words that don’t really go well together. The tech giant’s tryst with AR-powered glasses hasn’t gone too well. Google first announced Google Glass in 2013, it was made available to people in 2014 and officially discontinued in 2015. It wasn’t a glorious run but Google persisted with an Enterprise Edition, which got an update in 2019. Now, Google has announced that it will discontinue the Glass Enterprise Edition as well.
“Thank you for over a decade of innovation and partnership. As of March 15, 2023, we will no longer sell Glass Enterprise Edition. We will continue supporting Glass Enterprise Edition until September 15, 2023,” said Google in a message posted on its website.
What happens to existing users
Enterprise users who have the Glass Enterprise Edition will get support from Google till September 15 in 2023. However, there will be no software updates, according to a report by 9to5Google. Users will be able to get replacement devices if needed.
Even after September 15, users will be able to use the device. Developers will be able to update their apps and devices will work normally.
In case you’re unaware, Glass Enterprise Edition 2 is an assisted reality wearable that helps businesses improve the quality of their output. As per Google, the device can also help their employees work faster, smarter, and safer. “It provides hands-on workers and professionals with glanceable, voice-activated assistance that’s designed to be worn all day, thanks to its comfortable, lightweight profile,” Google notes on its website.
