Google I/O 2023 Liveblog: All the News as It Happens

Good morning, everyone, and welcome to WIRED’s liveblog for the Google I/O 2023 keynote address. Google’s presentation will get started at 10 am Pacific, 1 pm Eastern. We’ll start the liveblog about 45 minutes before the show begins.

We have a few reporters at I/O in Mountain View, California, including senior writers Lauren Goode and Will Knight, and senior reviews editor Julian Chokkattu. Along with senior editor Michael Calore (who is watching from his desk in San Francisco), the team will provide live updates and commentary from the keynote. Also check out our social channels on Instagram and Twitter to see videos and other fun updates from the show.

Though Google I/O is technically a developer conference, the company usually uses the event’s keynote address to announce new software updates, show off its latest hardware, and talk about its plans for the next year. The activity around machine intelligence and generative AI tools has been fiery hot for the past six months—not just at Google, but across the tech industry. We are expecting Google to spend the bulk of today’s address talking about generative AI—both how the company is incorporating its conversational tools into search, web apps, Android, and Assistant, and how its own advances in homegrown silicon are fueling its AI plans.

We know there’s a bunch of hardware coming. Google teased a folding device called the Pixel Fold last week, and we’re expecting the arrival of the long-promised Pixel Tablet.

You can read a full rundown of what to expect from Google I/O 2023 that we published earlier this week.

So! Refill your coffee, grab a vegan breakfast burrito, and come back at 9:15 am California time for three solid hours of live coverage.
