NEW DELHI: A vast majority of people have been working from home for the past 18 months or so due to the pandemic. With more people now relying on video calls, the popularity of video-conferencing apps like Zoom and Microsoft Teams is on a rise. The popularity and the importance of video conferencing apps is making companies constantly better their products and add new features. Now Google’s latest update for Chrome OS, will allow users to directly open the Google Meet app from the Launcher.
Google has announced that with the latest Chrome OS update, its video conferencing app will come pre-installed on all Chromebooks. The move seems to be aimed at students using Chromebooks for online classes and learning. As users of Chromebook will not have to install the video conferencing app and will get Google Meet.
Google also adds that it has made some performance improvements like adapting video calls to different network conditions and adjusting video performance during screen sharing which will further improve the user experience.
Recently, Google also partnered with Zoom to launch an improved version of the app for Chromebooks on the Google Play Store. This new version delivers faster performance, takes up less storage and includes latest features such as breakout rooms, live transcription and a new background masking feature for privacy.
Apart from this, the latest Chrome OS update brings features like support for e-SIM, updated emoji picker with a search bar and a new digital magazine for kids and families in the Explore app.
