Google Messages is getting better, here’s how – Times of India

Google is updating its messages app with a slew of new features and improvements. The company is also rolling out a new logo to match the design and theme of the Android 13 Material UI design. As a part of the update, the Messages app is getting messaging improvements between Android and iOS, reactions support, better inbox organisation and more. Here are all the new features, changes and improvements Google is making to the Android’s default messaging app.
Google Messages new features
First and foremost, users can now respond to a specific message without breaking the messaging flow, but that only works when RCS is turned on. Emoji reactions are finally getting an improvement. Messages app users can now use emojis to react to the messages send using an iPhone.
Google is also adding a voice message transcription feature to the Messages app. What this means is the app will automatically transcribe the voice messages. However, the feature is currently limited to Pixel 6 and Pixel 7 series devices along with Galaxy S22 and Galaxy Z Fold4.
Reminds are now integrated directly into the app. Users can now use reminders to remember important things without juggling between the apps. As a part of the feature, Google Messages will remind the users about important things right within the app.
Apart from that, users can now star an important message so that it does not get missed in between the random messages. In fact, Google is taking things further by allowing the app itself to identify important messages and suggest ‘star’ messages option.
YouTube integration is also a part of the Google Messages app which means users can watch a received YouTube link right within the app. Messages app can now also recognise text like “Can you talk now” and suggest a Google Meet video call or scheduling call options.
Google is also experimenting to let users chat with businesses they’ve found on search, maps, etc. But, it’s currently available in select countries.
Google Messages is also getting in-flight support. The company has partnered with United Airlines where users can use the app with RCS enabled on United Wi-Fi. Google has confirmed that broader support is coming soon.
