Google Photos to replace “Lens” with “Search” button – Times of India

Google Photos has one of the best search capabilities among gallery apps, allowing users to search images with specific objects, places, or people in them. And a while ago, Google integrated the Lens within Photos, allowing users to search the things in the image. But, the ‘Lens’ icon you see may soon be replaced with a new ‘Search’ icon, as it has for some.
How does Lens work in Google Photos
Right now, in the Photos app, when you open an image, it shows a bunch of options at the bottom, one of them being the Lens. When you tap the Lens icon, it does a visual search on the image, showing you results from across the internet. And you can also translate the text in the photo, shop for a product, search for a place, or simply copy the text.
As per a recent report by Android Police, some of the users are noticing a new “Search” button instead of the Lens button in Google Photos.
How would Search work in Google Photos
Instead of giving you the results from the internet, the Search would possibly emphasise the photos in your library. So, if you use Search within a photo with people, it will show you other pictures in the library with the same people.
The feature even works with photos having multiple people, not two or three, but you can have as many as four faces, and you will be able to search for individuals.
However, Lens is not going anywhere. So when you click on an object, building, or product, the Google Lens will open up, showing you visual matches through Google search.
The ‘Search’ button seems to be a limited test since not many have reportedly received the feature. So, there is no word on if or when this feature will be made available to everyone.
