Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 4a 5G officially discontinued ahead of Pixel 6 launch – Times of India

NEW DELHI: Google is all set to launch its new Pixel smartphones — Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The company is expected to launch the two new smartphones in October this year. However, just ahead of the launch of new smartphones, Google has quietly indicated that it is discontinuing two other Pixel phones. Google has reportedly discontinued the Pixel 4A 5G and the Pixel 5. Both the smartphones are presently listed on Google’s online store as sold out.
A company spokesperson told The Verge, “With our current forecasts, we expect Google Store in the US to sell out of Pixel 4a (5G) and Pixel 5 in the coming weeks following the launch of Pixel 5a (5G). These products will continue to be available through some partners while supplies last.”
Google has already launched the Pixel 5A earlier this month, so the decision to discontinue Pixel 4A doesn’t come as a surprise. However, it is quite unusual the company has discontinued the Pixel 5 ahead of the launch of Pixel 6.
Earlier this month, Google officially revealed its next flagship smartphones — Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. The smartphones flaunt a new design with a camera bar at the back and it is the first time that Google is using its own chip– Google Tensor– in a Pixel phone.
Google claims that the new Google Tensor chipset will provide the “most innovative AI and machine learning (ML) to our Pixel users.” The highlight of Tensor is that it can process Google’s most powerful AI and ML models directly on Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, said Google. “You’ll see a transformed experience for the camera Camera, speech recognition and many other Pixel 6 features,” it added.
