Google Pixel 6a Likely to be Powered by Tensor SoC – Smartprix

Earlier this week, we came across the alleged renders of Google Pixel 6a that revealed the device’s design and some surface details. The device looked rather similar to its brethren with a long protruding visor by the back. But then, we didn’t know the specifics of those sensors sitting within that black bar or the rest of the innards. Well, now we have something to talk on that regard.

The smart brains over at 9to5Google have found code of the particular sensor model and megapixel count upon APK teardown of the latest Google Camera app. They also claim the underlying processor to be Google’s in-house-born Tensor SoC.

Google Pixel 6a: What we know so far

From the earlier report, we got to see the phone’s flat fascia which is rumored to be 6.2-inches in size. We also saw what’s on its sides, i.e., its USB-C port, speaker grille, dual mics, SIM card tray, volume rocker, and power key.

According to this new source, Pixel 6a will sport a 12.2MP Sony IMX363 sensor within the main camera. This is a step down from the sensor employed in the higher-end Pixel 6 phones. Instead, Google is continuing its use of the same sensor from Pixel 3 to the Pixel 5a here. However, since Pixel cameras rely heavily on computational prowess rather than raw hardware, we aren’t that disappointed.

The other sensor in the dual camera setup is said to be a 12MP IMX386 ultrawide one. And as for the front, the device would come with an 8MP IMX355 snapper.

Now although camera specifics seem to be a downgrade, we are learning that the Pixel 6a will run on a Tensor chipset that was part of its bigger siblings. That’s exciting in the sense that a Pixel-A grade phone would feature a flagship processor. But, since the source hasn’t been substantiated by evidence, we can’t be sure.

So, we advise you to consume these details with a pinch of salt.
