Google Pixel 8, Pixel 8 Pro camera specs leaked
Google Pixel 8 series camera hardware (expected)
- The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro will come with upgraded camera hardware, according to a report by Android Authority.
- This time Google is reportedly planning to upgrade the cameras with the Samsung ISOCELL GN2 sensor which is a 50-megapixel sensor and offers up to 100MP imaging. It’s a large 1/1.12-inch sized sensor which will allow it to capture more light that will result in better low-light images. In comparison, the Pixel 7 Pro comes with a 50 MP Octa PD Quad Bayer wide camera.
- Another big improvement will be support for Staggered HDR that is designed to reduce the delay between the frames in HDR. This will help reduce ghosting and also speed up the capturing process in HDR mode. Google’s current Pixel phones already come with HDR+, and this feature is expected to enhance it even more.
- The Pixel 8 Pro’s ultrawide camera will be the 64MP Sony IMX787 sensor which is the primary camera on the Pixel 7a. The Pixel 8’s ultrawide camera is reportedly going to be the Sony IMX386, which is also on the Pixel 6 series but with a wider 0.55x zoom ratio over 0.67x in the latter.
- As for the telephoto camera on the Pixel 8 Pro, it is said to remain the same as the Pixel 7 Pro which is a 48MP sensor. There’s no upgrade in the selfie camera as it’s said to be the same 11MP front camera found in the Pixel 7 series.
- The Pixel 8 Pro is also getting a new 8×8 ToF VL53L8 sensor that should lead to a much more improved autofocus. This upgrade isn’t coming to the Pixel 8 though.
Google Pixel 8 series camera software (expected)
- In addition to hardware we’re also expecting some software improvements. There’s a new “Adaptive torch” feature that will automatically adjust the flash intensity which will help prevent overexposed shots.
- Then there’s “Segmentation AWB” which utilises AI to segment the scene into different parts and then apply different processing to each part of the image.
- The same video bokeh blue level selection that’s available on the Pixel 7 series is said to arrive on the Pixel 8 series as well.
