Google Pixel Fold reportedly cannot be completely unfolded to lay flat – Times of India
Tech giant Google launched its first foldable smartphone — Pixel Fold at the company’s annual developer conference Google I/O 2023. Similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series, the Pixel Fold is a book-style foldable phone that boasts several foldable-specific features. These include a built-in taskbar, multi-window support with drag-and-drop functionality, tabletop mode, and more. Now a new report has surfaced online revealing that the Pixel Fold cannot be unfolded completely flat.
As reported by 9to5Google, a book-style foldable smartphone from Google does not open completely from near the hinge. The report claims that the foldable smartphone opens up to 176 degrees, while Google claims that the smartphone can unfold up to 180 degrees. On the other hand, another report by Michael Fisher of MrMobile revealed that the Pixel Fold can reach up to 180 degrees but it would require a lot of pressure. Moreover, Google told Fisher that this is a side-effect of the hinge design.
The case is also the same with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold series. The smartphone maker claims that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 also unfolds up to 178 degrees. Fisher accurately notes that the Pixel Fold’s large camera module causes the issue, making it impossible for the unfolded phone to lie flat on a table.
Google Pixel Fold specifications
The Google Pixel Fold boasts a compact 5.8-inch AMOLED display, which expands to 7.6 inches when unfolded. Both displays offer a 120Hz refresh rate and the foldable display features ultra-thin glass, similar to the Galaxy Z Fold series, while the cover display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus.
Equipped with its own Tensor G2 chipset, the Pixel Fold boasts 12GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage, with the option of 512GB storage. The foldable phone is powered by a 4821mAh battery, which provides over 24 hours of battery life on a single charge and also supports wireless charging.
