Google Pixel Tablet may be powered by Tensor G2 chipset – Times of India

Google has been teasing its first-ever Pixel tablet since the I/O 2022 event. Speculations about the upcoming tablet have already made rounds on the internet and multiple rumours suggest that customers will be able to use this tablet as a Google Assistant smart display when it launches. The first-ever Pixel tablet will also reportedly serve as a showcase of the large-screen features that Google has developed since Android 12L was rolled out.
The tech giant is yet to confirm the official specs of the tablet, however, previous reports suggested that Google was developing another “Pro” variant of the Pixel Tablet (under the codename “Tangorpro”) along with the vanilla model (which has the codename “Tangor”). Now, a new development has cleared up the confusion about the supposed “Pixel Tablet Pro.” Google is expected to release the tablet at the company’s annual I/O conference which usually takes place in May.
Google Pixel Tablet: What to expect
According to a chain of tweets posted by Android researcher Kuba Wojciechowski (spotted by 9to5Google), a few new details about Google’s upcoming tablet have surfaced online. Citing an anonymous source, Wojciechowski says that the primary difference between Tangor and Tangorpro versions of the Pixel Tablet is that the former was being tested with the original Tensor chip, while the Pro variant is expected to run on the latest Tensor G2 chipset. The Tensor G2 also powers the Google Pixel 7 and 7 Pro smartphones that were released in 2022.

As per Wojciechowski, Google may not launch the original “Tangor” Pixel Tablet at all. The company will likely roll out the supposed “Pro” model as Pixel Tablet, but it won’t carry the “Pro” moniker. The 9to5google report also suggests that Google originally wanted to release the Pixel Tablet in 2022, but delayed the device for the hardware upgrade. The tweets shared by Wojciechowski also include a handful of images of the Pixel Tablet and its dock.

Google Pixel Tablet: Expected specs
Wojciechowski has also revealed a few other aspects of the Pixel Tablet. The upcoming device is expected to come powered by the Tensor G2 chip and may be backed by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The report also claims that the tablet may also support a 2560×1600 display resolution and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor.
Earlier, in 2022, rumours suggested that Google was working on two different docks for the Pixel Tablet, under the codenames “Korlan” and “Yuzu.” The report suggests that Google is still planning to release both docks. It also claims that the final Pixel tablet may work with either one of them. The report doesn’t mention any other details that would set the two docks apart.
