Google plans to go big against Microsoft at I/O 2023 – Times of India

Google’s I/O has always been about software, a little bit of hardware, and some AI talk here and there. But this year’s developers’ conference could be more about AI, as Google plans to show more of its AI prowess to take the fight against OpenAI and Microsoft.
Google may debut a new, more advanced AI language model
CNBC reports that Google is planning to go big on generative AI announcements, including a new general-use large language model –PaLM 2, which will be its most advanced AI language model. According to internal documents, the PaLM 2 will include support for over 100 languages and can perform a range of coding and maths problems. Further, it is capable of creative writing and analysis as well.
CEO Sundar Pichai will be addressing a live audience of developers, showcasing Google’s latest AI advancements.
During the event, Google will share updates on how AI is helping people reach their full potential. The presentation will include information on “generative experiences” for Bard and Search, as revealed in leaked documents.
“Generative experiences” coming to Bard and Search
According to documents, Google plans to enhance its Bard and Search tools with “generative experiences” that include using Bard for coding, maths, and logic, as well as expanding its capabilities in the Japanese and Korean languages.
The company has been developing more advanced Bard models and released them as an experiment in March. A more complex version, called “Multi-Bard,” was under the works, which can solve complicated maths and coding problems using a more extensive data set. The company has also tested other versions, such as “Big Bard” and “Giant Bard.”
Google Workspace in for some AI treatment
Google intends to enhance its “Workspace AI collaborator” by introducing template creation in Sheets and image creation in its Slides and Meet.
A few weeks ago, Google announced the generative AI feature for a selected batch of users, giving them access to the AI features in Gmail and Google Docs as part of a trial. Now, it plans to add more generative AI functionalities to Sheets, Slides, and Meet.
An image of a Slides sidebar featuring a chat box was viewed by the publication. As per their description, there is an option that enables users to input text and create an image based on their words, much similar to the Bing Image Creator.
Google Lens is also said to be in for some improvements. According to the report, the multisearch, announced last year, should be getting some new advancements.
What else may we see at Google I/O?
Apart from all the AI talk, Google will also talk about the upcoming iteration of Android. There are also a few new hardware products up for debut – Pixel Fold, Pixel 7a, Pixel Tablet, and one or two Nest home products.
