Google: ‘Snackable’, ‘personal’ and more on Google’s search menu in 2023 – Times of India

‘Snackable’ is not something you would generally associate with searching on the internet.Or more precisely with Google search. But if a report by The Wall Street Journal is to be believed then Google is set to overhaul its search in a big way for the first time in years. No prizes for guessing that it will be powered by AI.
The report says that the current model which has images, related search, and other tabs will now be replaced with something that is more “visual, snackable, personal, and human.”
Moving away from “10 blue links”
According to The Wall Street Journal, Google will be focusing on the young audience around the world and move away from the current — as known internally — 10 blue links model.
The search business is the bread and butter for Google as it raked in close to $162 billion in revenue last year. Google’s supremacy in the search business has been virtually unchallenged for many years. However, generative AI has given Google some food for thought. Microsoft’s backing of OpenAI and baking of AI features in Bing do seem to have a formidable threat to Google. The day Microsoft announced the integration of ChatGPT-powered features for Bing, Microsoft CEO called Google an 800-pound gorilla. “I hope with our innovation they (Google) will definitely want to come out and show that they can dance. I want people to know that we made them dance,” said Nadella.
Never mind the extremely quotable quote from Nadella but there is enough credibility in claims that Google is looking like playing catch up. This is why 2023 is a big year for Google and its search business.
As per the report, which cites internal documents, Google wants to focus more on answering queries that “can’t be easily answered by traditional web results.” according to internal reference documents outlining the company’s strategy for making changes to the search engine this year. “More than answers, we’ll help you when there’s no right answer,” Google executives said in the documents, according to the report. “As search evolves, delivering high-quality information and supporting a healthy, open web will remain core to our approach,” a Google spokeswoman told The Wall Street Journal.
It is expected that Google will roll out new features in search from time to time in 2023.
