Google tests ‘photo picker’ feature for Messages apps – Times of India

Google has started testing a new feature which is gallery focused– photo picker for its Messages feature.
According to a report by 9to5Google, the redesigned photo feature has already started appearing for some users on the Google Messages app.
As per the report, the new photo picker can be launched from the left side of the text fields shows the recently clicked pictures under the live camera alongside the Gallery option next to it.
Users will now be able to see 22 more images by swiping left and also get a shortcut to open the camera.
What has changed
The panel size gets bigger as the user scrolls down and can easily display 15 images in one go. The floating action buttons (FABs) for the camera and folders are placed at the bottom-right corner of the screen.
The update also improves the usability of a regularly used feature.
As per the report, the feature hasn’t arrived on too many devices as of now. So we do suggest that update the Photos app regularly to find out if your Android phone has got the feature or not.
What is Photo Picker
According to Google, the photo picker feature helps protect photo and video privacy of users. The tech giant also said that apps can use the photo picker APIs to access shared photos and videos without seeking permission to access all media files on the phone. The photo picker feature runs Android 11 (API level 30) or higher.
Meanwhile, Google also started testing end-to-end encryption features to its Messages’ group chats like WhatsApp and Telegram.
