Google will not let users buy or decline kids’ purchases: Here’s how – Times of India
“If you’re the family manager in the family group, you can choose purchase approval settings for any member of your family. If you’re a parent in the family group, you can choose the purchase-approval settings for family members whose accounts are managed with Family Link,” reads the Google Support page.
How does Google Purchase Request work?
Google in a blog post said that Purchase Requests will make it easier for families to safely make payments for both paid apps and in-app purchases.
In case users do not have a family payment set up on the Google Play Store, then children who are under 13 years of age will be able to send a purchase request directly to the family manager.
Users can then decide whether they want to approve or decline the purchase request for the application on an in-app purchase through their device.
A notification will be sent to the family member for the purchase request in real-time or they can view the approval request queue to decide later. If they agree to make the purchase, they can use their own stored payment method and also use the Google Play gift cards.
Just like the family payment method, users can keep a track of their transactions completed via Purchase Request in the Order History section.
Here’s how users can approve or decline the purchase request:
- Open the Google Play app on the smartphone.
- Tap on the profile picture from the top-right corner of the screen.
- Tap Settings
- Now, tap Family and then View family members.
- Enter the family member’s name and then Purchase approvals.
Select the type of purchase approval that you want to give. Choose from the option given below.
- All content
- Only paid content
- Only in-app purchases
- No approval required
Currently, the feature is available for users located in the US. There is no word from the company whether the feature will be available in other countries or not.
