Google working on a ‘Find My Device’ app similar to Apple’s | Digit

According to a recent Play System update, Google is working on launching its own version of Apple’s Find My Network solely for Android devices. Google’s play system was recently updated and there were mentions of a “privacy-centric framework”, along with encrypted last-known location reports which have led people to believe that such an update might be on its way.

There were rumours of a similar development back in 2021 but there were no updates of the same till this one came along.

What is Apple’s ‘Find My Network’ which is the supposed inspiration behind this development?

This app is a service provided by Apple INC. that allows for remote tracking of all iOS devices. For this app to work, if you had lost an iOS device and had another one handy, then both devices need to have the ‘Find my iPhone’ app installed, location services turned on and be connected to the same iCloud account. ‘

Other Google Play System Update Changes

There are more changes that have come along with this update. Applications will be automatically archived whenever there is low storage space in the phone along with digital car key support for Xiaomi Phones. This update is not new as this was available previously but only on Pixel and Samsung devices. Other than that even users of Fitbit Sense 2 and Versa 2 after the update can manage payment using wearables by linking them to the Google Wallet app.
