Grand National 2022 LIVE: Updates from Aintree, runners, riders, tips and odds

It is Grand National day at Aintree and all around the country even the most casual fans will be weighing up the odds ahead of the big race. With a total of 40 runners expected to line up for the start at 5.15pm, bookmakers are predicting an eyewatering £150m in total will be wagered by punters today.

A crowd of 70,000 is expected on Merseyside to roar the contenders on, and there is sure to be a sensational atmosphere, with this being the first Grand National to take place with fans present since 2019 due to Covid.

Minella Times, ridden by trailblazing female jockey Rachael Blackmore, is the favourite amongst most to triumph following last year’s success. But the field looks wide open, with the likes of Any Second Now, Delta Work and Snow Leopardess also receiving favourable odds.

Speaking ahead of the race, Blackmore said: “What you do feel is excitement. The Grand National is just so massive, you never think you’re actually going to get to win it.

“Jockeys will wish each other good luck beforehand. It just has a different feel to it, especially riding Minella Times who gave me such a fantastic spin last year. He took to it really well. Jumping those fences with a horse that’s enjoying it is a great feeling. Tiger Roll won back to back so you never know.”
