Grand Theft Auto VI: Take-Two CEO Sets High-Expectations for the Franchise’s New Titles to Deliver ‘Something Never Seen Before’

It’s no easy feat to improve upon a Grand Theft Auto title, but that’s the challenge of being a Rockstar Games dev, according to Take-Two CEO Andrew Zelnick.

For the past three decades, Grand Theft Auto has served as a benchmark for open-world RPGs for its exciting worlds, storylines, characters, gameplay, and more. This makes it a Herculean task for developers at Rockstar to come up with new ideas that can serve as the benchmark for other titles in the genre.

In a recent interview on the Good Time Show podcast (via PC Gamer), Zelnick talked about Rockstar’s attempts to create “something never seen before” with each new iteration of Grand Theft Auto.

“It [new GTA game] needs to be something you’ve never seen before on the one hand, and it needs to reflect the feeling we have about Grand Theft Auto,” said Zelnick. “That’s a big challenge for the team.”

Zelnick later pointed out that Rockstar’s mantra has always been to, “seek nothing short of perfection and we’ll get there.” He noted that the popular American studio’s motto is wildly different from other Take-Two developers like Gearbox or Firaxis Games. However, he believes that the studio’s philosophy fits with the kind of games and fans they offer to.

Fans have already got a taste of Grand Theft Auto VI through last year’s leaks. However, it will be interesting to see if Rockstar at launch can showcase something that fans can be wowed by,
