GTA 6: Microsoft Also Expects the Game to Release in 2024 After Initial Rumors

Even Microsoft thinks Grand Theft Auto 6 could release in 2024.

In Microsoft’s recent statement to the CMA, the tech firm mentioned the game’s rumored date of release.

CMA – the Competition and Markets Authority – is the UK’s competition regulator. Microsoft’s filing with the CMA was regarding its acquisition of game developer and publisher Activision Blizzard.

One of the main concerns about the acquisition is that Microsoft will make popular Activision games such as Call of Duty exclusive to its platforms, such as Xbox and Windows.

In the publicly accessible document, there’s a section where Microsoft made points about console platforms having a range of alternative options.

While talking about Take-Two Interactive, Microsoft mentioned that “the highly anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI is expected to be released in 2024.”

The company also mentioned games from developers and publishers such as Epic Games, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, Sony, and Studio Wildcard to show that Activision games aren’t big enough in the market to hurt competition.

“Call of Duty does not have the kind of market power that needs to be present for leveraging to be even a remote possibility – as Call of Duty gamers are not special compared to other popular franchises,” the statement reads.

However, Microsoft attributes GTA 6’s 2024 release date to a TechRadar article from October. The article itself uses a report Bloomberg that was published in July 2022.

Microsoft may really have knowledge about the game’s release date, but it is also possible that the tech firm is simply using reports that are public knowledge to make its points.
