GTA San Andreas: Rockstar Owner Sends a Legal Notice to Cluckin’ Bell-Themed Pop-Up Restaurant

One of the highlights for Grand Theft Auto fans during San Diego Comic-Con 2022 were Cluckin’ Bell and Burger Shot themed pop up restaurants that served video-game inspired food and drinks. Unfortunately, this experience has now received a cease and desist letter from Rockstar’s parent company, so it will no longer be available for San Diego Comic-Con 2023, which will take place from July 20-23.

This GTA-style experience was brought to the fans by local restaurant, Smokin J’s BBQ. For this year’s Comic-Con, the restaurant’s preparations were going on in full swing, but mere days before the event, the owner received a cease and desist letter from Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two Interactive.

As RockstarIntel reports, Smokin J’s BBQ stated that they received a “cease and desist letter from the law firm representing Take-Two Interactive.” As a result, the Burger Shot event they were going to host during Comic-Con weekend has been scrapped. However, the Cluckin’ Bell event will go as planned, but it will be a “spoof installation branded as Dont Cluckin Tell.”

As spotted by PCGamer, Smokin J’s BBQ has also posted an apology video on their Instagram account, and are disheartened about not being able to bring this GTA-themed experience to the fans this year. Furthermore, as the restaurant had stocked up on meat prior to the cancellation, they will be providing fans with burgers and onion rings at half price. Returning fans to Comic-Con will surely be sad to not see Burger Shot and Cluckin’ Bell not present at the event.
