SAI inquiry indicts Jaiswal for involvement in videography row
NEW DELHI: Just a week ahead of the start of the CWG, gymnastics coach Rohit Jaiswal, who was accused of ‘misdemeanour’ by leading gymnast Aruna Budda Reddy, has been dropped from the Indian contingent for the Birmingham edition of the Games.
It’s been learnt that Jaiswal’s parent organisation, Border Security Force (BSF), has refused to grant him no-objection certificate (NOC) to travel for the Games. The development came nearly a week after TOI had, in its edition dated July 16, reported about Jaiswal’s inclusion as one of the men’s team’s coaches in the Indian gymnastics contingent for the CWG. His name had figured in the CWG ‘list of athletes and officials’ finalised by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).
A seven-member gymnastics contingent was selected for the CWG, with Jaiswal and Ashok Kumar Mishra as the two male coaches. In the absence of Jaiswal, Mishra will shoulder the responsibility as the men’s team coach. Krupali Patel Singh will mentor the four-member women’s team.
In a related matter, the SAI’s three- member inquiry committee – headed by TEAMS division executive director (ED) Radhica Sreeman – which was tasked with probing the alleged incident of Aruna’s videography during her fitness test – has indicted Jaiswal for his involvement.
The committee has concluded that the video of Aruna’s fitness test was recorded on instructions of Jaiswal without obtaining her consent, TOI has learnt from sources.
Accordingly, the coach had been repatriated to his parent cadre, BSF, by SAI on June 30. The submission of the inquiry report to BSF also acted as one of the reasons Jaiswal’s name was removed from the CWG-bound gymnastics contingent.
Apart from the SAI, Aruna has also complained about the incident to the world gymnastics body’s Gymnastics Ethics Foundation (GEF), which is also looking into the matter. It has sought the committee’s report from the SAI before initiating any action against Jaiswal.
