Halle Berry Basically Cast Herself in John Wick: Chapter 3

Halle Berry left quite an impression on John Wick filmmaker Chad Stahelski.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Stahelski recalled how the Oscar-winning actor joined 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum.

“Funny story … I got a call from WME, when we were still writing John Wick 3, like, ‘What do you think of Halle Berry?’ Well, she’s awesome. She’s Halle Berry,” Stahelski said. “And then they said, ‘She’s coming to see you. Today.’ And I swear to you, that afternoon I get a knock on the door, and it’s Halle Berry. She’s didn’t miss a beat and said, ‘I’m just coming to see you because I’m going to be in your next movie.’ I’m like, ‘Are you?’ Straight face she says, ‘Yes, and I’m going to train my ass off.’”

Berry made her John Wick debut in the third installment as Sofia Al-Azwar, the manager of the Continental Hotel in Casablanca. She starred alongside Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Mark Dacascos, Asia Kate Dillon, Anjelica Huston, and Keanu Reeves, who reprises the titular role in the upcoming fourth chapter of the gun-fu franchise.

On her performance, IGN’s Jim Vejvoda wrote, “The most notable of these new characters is Halle Berry’s Sofia, John’s past frenemy Berry delivers a crowd-pleasing turn marked by brutal efficiency in her action scenes and a world-weary reluctance in her seriocomic exchanges with Reeves.”

Stahelski’s John Wick: Chapter 4 premieres in theaters March 24; read IGN’s 10/10 review here.
