Harry Kane ‘personally recommends’ Tottenham to sign Man Utd star Harry Maguire

Tottenham striker Harry Kane has recommended Harry Maguire as a possible summer signing for the club following the arrival of Ange Postecoglu as their new permanent boss, according to reports. The Aussie penned a four-year deal in north London before his appointment was confirmed on Tuesday and he will be desperate to add to his squad over the coming weeks in order to prepare for his first season as a Premier League manager.

It has recently been claimed that Maguire could leave Manchester United this summer in order to play regularly elsewhere after being reduced to a back-up role by Erik ten Hag last season. It seems as though Kane would be happy to welcome his England team-mate to Tottenham in advance of the new campaign, with the 29-year-old having already recommended Maguire to those in power at the club, according to The Telegraph.

Kane reportedly shares a strong bond with Maguire from their time together on international duty and would be delighted to play alongside the United defender at Spurs if he ends up joining their ranks in the not-too-distant future. Tottenham are said to have registered an interest in Maguire ahead of the upcoming summer window but there is no indication that an official bid could be forthcoming as of yet.

Maguire was previously a target for Spurs during Mauricio Pochettino’s reign in north London, with the Argentine boss having been eager to poach him from Hull City back in 2017. He was eventually snapped up by Leicester City, where he excelled before joining United in a money-spinning move that saw him become the most expensive defender in world football.

Regular first-team minutes have been hard to come by for Maguire as of late, though, with the likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and even Luke Shaw being preferred to feature for United in defence over the course of last season. It remains to be seen if he will be given a new lease of life by Tottenham over the next few weeks, with any move likely to please Kane as he continues to weigh up his own future at club level.

The report adds that Tottenham’s interest in Maguire could be seen as a potential move to convince Kane to stay for at least another season, with the England skipper about to enter into the final year of his existing contract at the club. It has been widely reported that Kane could push for a move away from Spurs this summer with the aim of winning trophies elsewhere after failing to secure any major honours throughout the entirety of his professional career.

Real Madrid are believed to have a keen interest in bringing Kane to the Bernabeu in order to serve as Karim Benzema’s immediate successor following the Frenchman’s decision to join Saudi club Al-Ittihad. United, meanwhile, have also been credited with a desire to land the Spurs talisman as Ten Hag seeks a new first-choice striker to lead the line for the Red Devils next season.

Only time will tell how the situation will play out over the coming weeks and months, though, with Tottenham desperate to avoid letting Kane leave as they look to rebuild under the guidance of Postecoglu when the new Premier League campaign gets underway.
