Harry Potter HBO TV Series to Involve J. K. Rowling; Audience Shares Strong Reactions Online Against the Franchise

After weeks of speculations, it has now finally been confirmed that an HBO TV series based on the Harry Potter franchise is indeed in the works.

It was also reported the series will involve the supervision of franchise author J. K. Rowling, who herself is quite the controversial personality these days. Naturally, this led to a fan outrage all over the internet, as people are not happy with the announcement.

As reported by Bloomberg, the series will apparently involve seven seasons, each based on the seven Harry Potter books by J.K. Rowling. The report also mentions that the series will involve Rowling’s supervision to ensure that the adaptation remains loyal to the source. However, she will reportedly not be a day-to-day showrunner, and serve as a primary creator.

Regardless, only the mention of Rowling’s involvement is enough to set people off these days. After all, following the release of the final movie adaptation of Deathly Hallows, she’s often made news for all the wrong reasons. Her tweets online, specific to subjects of the LGBTQI+ community, inclusivity, equality and empowerment, have offended the audience at large, leading them to demand the boycott of her products and all things that benefit her as a person in any way. We’ve witnessed outbursts of the kind every time a Fantastic Beasts movie releases, and more recently, during the launch of Hogwarts Legacy.

Announcement of the Harry Potter TV series, and now, the confirmation of J. K. Rowling’s involvement, have once again, brought out the same anger of the audience. Netizens are now flooding the internet with comments that put across the general thought that “it’s time to just let the IP die.”

As for the timeline of the series and its production, nothing has been revealed just yet. It is hard to say if the creators will be tracking back on their plans of involving Rowling, like Avalanche Studios did with Hogwarts Legacy. Regardless, we now know for sure that a Harry Potter TV series reboot is indeed on the pipelines – 12 years, 3 average at best movies (Sorry Eddie Redmayne!), and 1 play later.
