Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions – Everything We Know

Hogwarts Legacy might be one of the best-selling games in recent memory, but it was missing a feature that a lot of fans would’ve liked to see–the brooms and balls sport of Quidditch. We now have official word that a Quidditch game set in the Harry Potter universe is coming, and while we don’t have all the details yet, here’s what we do know about the upcoming game.

What is this Quidditch game?

According to a recent announcement, the title of the game is Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions, and it’s a competitive multiplayer game that’s been in development for several years. It will be a standalone game, and it will be published by Warner Bros. under the Portkey Games label, which is the one it uses for Harry Potter games.

What platforms is it coming out for?

Currently, Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is set for PC and unconfirmed consoles. It’s unclear when this decision will be made, but it’s almost guaranteed to support current-gen consoles in some capacity.

Who is making Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions?

The developer behind the game is Unbroken Studios, best known for its battle royale game Fractured Lands. The studio also co-developed the upcoming Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League with Arkham series developer Rocksteady Studios.

When is Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions going to release?

The game does not currently have a set release date. However, there are limited playtests that will allow you to play an early version of it, and you can register for them here.

What other features are confirmed for Quidditch Champions?

At this early point, it’s difficult to say what the game will and won’t include, but the developers have confirmed that you’ll be able to create your own competitors. It can also be played solo or with friends online, though the party limits have not been confirmed. Additionally, it seems that Quidditch Champions will include “broomstick adventures” in addition to the titular sport, meaning that the broom-flying will go beyond the pitch.

Does Quidditch Champions have JK Rowling’s approval or creative input?

The announcement seems to indicate that JK Rowling is not directly involved with the creation of Quidditch Champions, though it notes that she’s “hugely supportive” of Portkey Games in general. It also says all games made under the label will be “authentic” to her version of the Wizarding World.

Like Hogwarts Legacy, Quidditch Champions is likely to remain controversial due to transphobic remarks from Harry Potter author JK Rowling. Although she is not personally involved with its development, she stands to profit from its success. For more, read our in-depth article on how Rowling’s comments have impacted the trans community.
