HBO Shows Start Arriving on Netflix Under Warner Bros. Discovery’s New Licensing Deal

Issa Rae’s Insecure is now available to stream on Netflix, making it the first HBO library title to launch on the platform under Warner Bros. Discovery’s new licensing deal.

As reported by Deadline, Netflix has added all five seasons of Insecure to its streaming library for US subscribers, with Band of Brothers, The Pacific, Six Feet Under, and Ballers set to arrive at a later date in an agreement that is co-exclusive with Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max.

This is the first time Netflix has aired HBO content in the US, and it has already prompted calls for these HBO shows to be made available to Netflix subscribers in the UK. True Blood, which streams on Hulu, is one known title Netflix will add to its service outside the US.

Several shows, including Westworld and Raised by Wolves, were pulled from HBO Max and moved to other streaming services before Warner Bros. Discovery relaunched as a premium service and started shopping some of its HBO titles to Netflix as part of a reported financial move.

Starring Issa Rae, Yvonne Orji, Jay Ellis and Lisa Joyce, Insecure follows the friendship of two black women as they deal with their own real-life flaws while attempting to navigate different worlds and cope with an endless series of uncomfortable everyday experiences.

Insecure ran for five seasons on HBO between 2016 and 2021, with the series finale airing on December 26, 2021. The comedy-drama is now available on both Netflix and Max.
