‘He basically called me a donkey!’: Carragher reveals Lionel Messi’s angry message after Cristiano Ronaldo comparison
With Lionel Messi coming to Argentina’s rescue in their 2-0 win over Mexico in the ongoing FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar, fans and former players have rushed to pour high praises at the PSG attacker. Meanwhile, also a conversation of Messi with Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has since then gone viral on social media and it has received a humorous reaction from everyone. Earlier, the former England international had revealed that the Argentina captain called him ‘a donkey’ after he criticised his transfer to PSG.
The 44-year-old claimed that Messi had a problem with his opinion of his performances for PSG, while discussing his Team of the Year on Friday Night Football. Carragher revealed that he had mocked Ronaldo’s transfer to United in Monday Night Football and also used Messi’s move to PSG as an example.

“I had a little pop at Ronaldo early in the season, I didn’t think it was a great signing for United. And I said the example of Messi, I didn’t think Messi was a great signing for PSG”, he said.
“It was on Monday Night Football and I got a private message on Instagram. From the man himself, I will not be showing private messages but he basically called me a donkey! He watches Monday Night Football, so hopefully he’s watching Friday Night Football as well, because Lionel I absolutely love you”, he further added.
Other than his goal against Mexico, Messi also assisted Enzo Fernandez for Argentina’s second goal. In what is probably his final World Cup, the 35-year-old scored from outside the box with a shot into the bottom corner. After the win, he said, “Today another World Cup starts for Argentina.”
“I tell people the same thing, that they continue to believe. Today we did what we had to do. We had no other choice. We had to win so that we depended only on ourselves. The first half we did not play as we should and in the second when we calmed down, we started to play the ball better and after the goal, we went back to being what we are”, he added.
