Here are the 5 Things You Should Know Before Wishing for Yae Miko

The much awaited v2.5 Patch is here and with it came a much-longer awaited 5* Catalyst character: Yae Miko! Genshin Impact has been heavily promoting the arrival of Yae Miko, who has just entered the chat on February 16. IGN has been faithfully covering all the new info that’s coming out from HoYoverse, aka MiHoYo.

Now that Yae is here and her trial is out, we F2Ps must ask ourselves: should I? Oh, you can also watch her playstyle demo here and listen to Dainsleif talk about her skills and abilities with the passion of a Nat Geo narrator:

Okay so now that we know who and what we’re dealing with, here are the top 5 considerations you should keep in mind before spending your hard-earned primogems on Yae Miko:

Should you pull for Yae?

The most important question to ask yourselves, because we know the line-up HoYoverse has planned for this version. After Yae, Raiden Shogun and Kokomi will have reruns, both excellent characters.

Yae Miko looks largely to be a sub-DPS unit with great Burst Damage and high off-field capabilities. However, her kit has competition with characters like Fischl, a great off-field support, and Raiden, an Electro battery with high Recharge Rate bonuses and is a DPS unit with high Burst damage and Skill support. Kokomi is also one of the best characters to use in the Abyss, because of her healing capabilities and Hydro applications.

And don’t forget that Kamisato Ayato is also just around the corner, with reruns of characters like Venti, Kazuha and Ayaka, three of the best crowd-control DPS units.

Is her Banner worth it?

Previously, we had predicted the line-up for Yae Miko’s banner, featuring a line-up of well-loved 4* characters: Thoma (Protector from Afar), Fischl (Prinzessin der Verurteilung) and Diona (Katzlein Cocktail), three of the best support characters Genshin has given us so far.

Each of these characters make for excellent support for Yae: Thoma can apply his Pyro shields for an Overload elemental reaction, Fischl is an excellent off-field support character who deals consistent damage and increase Electro Resonance with Yae, Diona can apply Cryo for a Super-Conduct elemental reaction, is a good healer and shield applicator.

If you haven’t build enough pity for Yae, you can definitely try to snag some of these 4* characters or their constellations.

Is the Weapons Banner worth it?

This run, the weapons banner is top-notch, with the Kagura’s Verity Catalyst and the Jade Cutter Sword (the best sword in the Genshin meta right now) in the 5* slots. As of now, the Kagura’s Verity Catalyst is only good for Yae and Lisa, the only two Electro mages who can maximize this weapon’s capability. The 4* weapons Wavebreaker’s Fin (Polearm), Sacrificial Sword (Sword), Rainslasher (Claymore), Eye of Perception (Catalyst), and The Stringless (Bow) are all really good in their own ways.

It is totally understandable to whale on this banner for the weapons.

New (and Free) 4* Catalyst

A new F2P Catalyst, the Oathsworn Eye, will be available during the Three Realms Gateway Offering event, starting tomorrow onwards. It is also extremely likely we shall be getting all the materials to max it out to Refinement Level 5 (similar to the Luxurious Sea Lord Claymore during the Genshin 1 year Anniversary event).

The Catalyst is giving players up to 48% Energy Recharge bonus after activating elemental skills, good Attack boost and the best base attack stats of all 4* weapons, this weapon has the potential to be great for any Catalyst user, especially Yae Miko.

Yae Miko Talent Priority

Another issue is that we would not be able to Crown Yae Miko instantly, no matter how much farming you’ve done, simply because her late-game Talent materials are simply not available. Raiden Shogun’s new Weekly Boss is yet to drop and we need to beat that several times in order to maximize Yae’s potential.

This also raises questions about which Talent should be prioritized, based on your play-style. If you intend to make Yae your DPS unit, then prioritize her basic attacks or if you want to make her your sub-DPS unit with off-field capabilities, then you need to prioritize her Elemental Skill and Burst Talents.
