After two mainline games, DLC expansions, and even a dive into virtual reality, developer Guerrilla Games says it still has plenty of content in the pipeline for that PlayStation series. Speaking at Develop: Brighton, studio director Jan-Bart van Beek said that Guerrilla has around “16 plans” in development for the franchise.
“We’re going to be continuing it for a very long while,” van Beek said (via GamesRadar). “As people probably already know, we’re also going to be working on a multiplayer game.”
Van Beek described this multiplayer project as a cooperative game that’s “a massive shift for the studio” and is “almost on the same level” as Horizon Zero Dawn in terms of development. “Building this all out to a multiplayer experience is a whole new challenge for the studio.”
Back in April, Guerrilla confirmed that a Horizon Forbidden West sequel is in development, and the franchise is also being expanded on through a number of transmedia projects such as a rumored Horizon Zero Dawn remaster for PS5, a Netflix TV series adaptation, and the aforementioned MMO spin-off. One familiar face and voice that won’t be around for the expansion of Horizon is Lance Reddick, as the actor sadly passed away earlier this year.
Reddick had provided the voice and likeness for the deuteragonist Sylens, and in the Burning Shores DLC, his last appearance saw him preparing to take on the apparent true antagonist of the Horizon games.
