House of the Dragon Was the Most Pirated Show of 2022 Ahead of the Boys, Lord of the Rings, and Moon Knight

As we begin 2023, we can look back on 2022 and its various offerings in the world of TV and film.

On the smaller screens, viewers received some brilliant content on various platforms. Every genre had its own champion, which made 2022 one of the strongest years for TV and streaming.

While streaming is the most popular way to watch all your favorite shows, not everyone found themselves paying money to view content. Instead, torrent websites also found a lot of traffic from viewers trying to download episodes for free.

But which TV series had fans flocking towards these websites the most? The answer – House of the Dragon.

According to TorrentFreak, the Game of Thrones prequel topped the charts of piracy list. The new series jumped to the top of the rankings ahead of other newcomer series like The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, which came second.

Another Amazon Prime offering joining on the podium is The Boys, which saw the release of Season 3. Rounding off the Top 5, there’s Marvel’s Moon Knight and the new Halo Paramount+ series as well.

Star Wars also attracted many fans towards torrent websites, as the Obi-Wan Kenobi, The Book of Boba Fett and Andor came in sixth, seventh and tenth, respectively. While Netflix’s Stranger Things came eighth in the standings, Marvel had another outing in She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, which placed ninth.

With a second season of House of the Dragon rumored to arrive this year, it’s very likely that the show could have a run at the top for long just like its predecessor had until 2019.
