How Covid may hurt Apple iPhone 14 series again – Times of India
Apple’s biggest supplier Foxconn may be again facing Covid troubles. The company has reportedly paused its hiring because of four-day quarantine space shortage. The space for quarantined individuals is said to have run out. According to a report in Apple Insider, “Chinese Apple supplier Foxconn needs 100,000 new workers to get back to full capacity, but the four-day quarantine requirement has forced hiring to pause for now.”
The Covid-19 outbreak at Foxconn has led to an exodus of employees. One of the causes of this has been the strict Covid policies for employees at the company’s plants — leading to frequent quarantine and isolation. This has forced the company to hire en-mass to get production back on track. Lockdowns and other measures have created issues for the company. As per a report in South China Morning Post, Foxconn has over 100,000 applicants for the open positions, however, the req red quarantine measurements have led to a three-day pause in hiring. As per rules, every new employee must quarantine for four days before entering the workforce.
The short delay likely isn’t great news for the company or Apple as the frequent lockdowns in China have already affected shipping times for the iPhone 14. Foxconn plants have not been able to run at full capacity, further hurting iPhone supply issues. Some reports suggest that Chinese authorities have even asked ex-military retirees to join the factory.

Bad news for iPhone shoppers
So far it’s not clear how much these issues at Foxconn will affect Apple or how long it will take to meet iPhone demand. The company recently said that it is too late to get an iPhone 14 Pro for Christmas when ordering online. For iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, these dates were November 15. This means deliveries of these phones on orders made post these dates will nit be able to ship by December 15. “See the latest dates to order your holiday gifts with free shipping. In most metros, get in-stock items from your local Apple Store as late as December 24 when you choose Apple Pickup or 2-hour delivery* from the Store,” reads the note on Apple’s online store.
In India too there has been a supply crunch of these iPhone 14 models. Some reports suggest wait time leading to at least a month.
