How Has Thor: Love and Thunder Started a Press Tour Without a Trailer and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness Promotions Are Utterly Scarce?

As of right now, everyone would agree with me when I say that Thor: Love and Thunder and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are Marvel Studio’s biggest blockbusters of the year. While Black Panther: Wakanda Forever will have a lot of eyeballs, it’s very unlikely for the Ryan Coogler-directed film to surpass the hype the other two MCU movies of 2022 currently has.

However, for the first time in a long while, the studio has employed a rather radical approach with the marketing of the two movies, especially with the fourth film of the Thor franchise, as it’s set to release in under 85 days, and fans haven’t seen a single official teaser, trailer or poster for it.

Over the past few weeks, several leaks have revealed tidbits about the Taika Waititi-directed movie, which sees the return of Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster and a new MCU villain in Gorr the God Butcher, who will be played by Christian Bale. However, Marvel Studios have still held on to all the movie’s promotional material, even though the film’s leading man in Chris Hemsworth announced the start of the marketing tour in a recent Instagram post.

With Thor: Love and Thunder set to release in less than three months, it’s very likely that the trailer will drop in the coming weeks, and recent rumors suggest that to be the case. However, it would then dampen the marketing run of Sam Raimi’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will release early next month. The movie has suffered multiple delays before the release date was fixed to May 6, which means that the film will release in around three weeks.

But, the movie hasn’t had a massive marketing run that will rival the likes of Spider-Man: No Way Home or the Avengers movies, even though the upcoming film has similar stakes involving the multiverse. Other than the multiple posters, teasers, and trailers, we have yet to see the movie’s cast and crew kick the marketing into high gear, and we haven’t had a single glimpse of actors like Benedict Cumberbatch, Elizabeth Olsen, Rachel McAdams, and Benedict Wong talk about their film.

While the promotional tour might soon begin to ramp up for the Doctor Strange sequel, it’s very likely that Marvel’s next movie in Thor: Love and Thunder might spoil the party by dropping its trailer. However, there’s a very good chance that Feige and co. might hold on to the trailer and release it as a post credits scene to Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, or release it separately once the movie releases, and it will be interesting to see what option the popular studio will employ.
