Disney+ Hotstar has announced that over 500 million smartphone users in India will have access to live streaming of the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup on their OTT platform, free of cost.

“Disney+ Hotstar has remained at the forefront of the rapidly evolving OTT industry in India and the various innovations we have introduced to continue enhancing the viewer experience has allowed us to delight our audiences across the region. Making the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup available to a wider audience, we believe, will help us grow the overall eco-system,” Sajith Sivanandan, Head of Disney+ Hotstar.

This move comes after JioCinema recorded 44.9 crore viewership during the Tata IPL 2023. For those who are unaware, IPL 2023 was live-streamed for free on JioCinema. With the new statement, it looks like Disney+ Hotstar wants to be as successful as JioCinema and make up for lost ground. Before, users had to pay at least Rs 299 per month for the Premium plan or higher to be able to watch cricket events and other sports.

Meanwhile, the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 is set to take place in India in September, and the country will also host the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup from October 5th to November 19th, spanning almost two months. The Asia Cup has a total of 13 matches scheduled, while the World Cup will feature 10 countries competing for the coveted trophy, with a total of 48 matches scheduled.
