The ICC issued a statement saying that Hasaranga was found guilty of breaching the code that pertains to the “misuse or mistreatment of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an International Match”.
“The incident occurred after Hasaranga was dismissed, when on return to the pavilion, he hit the boundary skirtings with his bat in an aggressive manner”, the ICC statement explained.
Hasaranga acknowledged his wrongdoing and accepted the imposed penalty.
During Friday’s match, Maheesh Theekshana and Hasaranga displayed exceptional spin-bowling skills, leading Sri Lanka to a 21-run victory over the Netherlands in the opening Super Six game for both the teams.

As a consequence of his actions, Hasaranga’s disciplinary record has been updated with one demerit point. This incident marks his second offence within a 24-month period, bringing his total demerit points to two.
