IIT Mandi to host ‘5G Use Case Lab’, to develop apps in these areas – Times of India
The DoT officially awarded the 5G use case Lab to the School of Computing and Electrical Engineering (SCEE), IIT Mandi at the ongoing India Mobile Congress (IMC 2023) in the Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The objectives of the 5G Use-case lab is to build competencies and engagement in 5G technologies among students and academic fraternity. It also aims to enable projects at UG and PG level for students using the 5G environment.
The IIT Mandi 5G Use-case lab will explore applications of 5G technologies in areas spanning e-Healthcare, Smart Cities, and Next-generation Communication.
Further, this facility will also encourage academia-industry engagement to ideate and develop 5G use cases, and provide local access to 5G test setup for startups and MSMEs around the institution — making Indian academia and startup ecosystem 6G ready.
100 5G labs to be set up in campuses across India
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated IMC 2023. on Friday announced the establishment of 100 5G labs across India that will serve as testing and breeding grounds for local innovators, students, and startups to develop a new range of applications in various sectors.
Speaking at the event, Modi emphasised the importance of India becoming a thought leader in technology, noting past successes such as the Unified Payments Interface (UPI) and the Covid-19 vaccination platform, CoWIN. He stated, “This is such a time that we, along with excellent adopters and implementers of technology, must become thought leaders in all sectors. India has the power of a young demographic and a vibrant democracy. I want to invite all the IMC participants, especially the youth, to come forward, and I will be with you.”
