In This Corner of the World Creator’s New Anime Film to Get First Look in September
In This Corner of The World director Sunao Katabuchi’s upcoming anime film titled The Mourning Children: Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black will get a preview at the Kyoto International Manga Anime Fair on September 16, 2023.
At the event, there will be a panel for the film where a video will be revealed, giving more information about the historical anime film.
Katabuchi will talk about The Mourning Children and introduce the main staff, as well reveal the visuals of the film.
Set against the backdrop of Heian-period Japan in Kyoto, The Mourning Children: Nagiko and the Girls Wearing Tsurubami Black will delve into the life of Sei Shonagon, renowned as the author of The Pillow Book, a literary work offering an intimate and vivid glimpse into courtly life during the Heian era.
Katbuchi spent six years on the concept of the film, and is making it based on “thorough research and analysis of literature.”
The film’s title was first revealed at the MAPPA Stage 2023 event in May. Studio Contrail will animate the film, which is established by Katabuchi himself. The representative director at MAPPA, Manabu Ootsuka, is the CEO of the studio.
