IND vs AUS: It is exciting to win a series in India, says Mitchell Starc | Cricket News – Times of India

VISAKHAPATNAM: Mitchell Starc, who set up Australia’s thumping 10-wicket victory against India with a five-wicket haul at the Dr YSR ACA-VDCA Stadium on Sunday, said that the strategy has been to get wickets in the powerplay and that it worked out well for them here.
“It is not a new game plan as such, I have always tried to take wickets in the powerplay, and we were able to take six wickets in the powerplay today. Taking wickets in the powerplay is the way forward in one-day cricket as we can control the game from thereon. This is what we did today, and things fell in place,” Starc said after the match.

Was it an advantage for him to bowl to right-handed batters? “It doesn’t work that way and not for me especially. I just like to bowl fast and keep the ball up and let it swing so it doesn’t matter if the batter is a right-hander or a left-hander,” he said.

With the World Cup to be played in India, are the Australians using this trip to get used to the conditions? “Yes, it helps to get used to the conditions, but every series is a chance to improve and work at our goals. Though we have one eye on the World Cup and are seizing up the conditions, we obviously have a more important job of trying to win this series. We go to Chennai and hope to win the series there. That is an exciting prospect of beating India in India. Once we get past that object, then we can focus more on the World Cup and the preparations for it. The World Cup is quite a long way to go but the immediate goal is to win this series,” the left-arm seamer said.
