Pre-Match Analysis:
In a way sided contest, it was India who triumphed in the 1st ODI with an effortless 5 wickets win. Skipper Rohit Sharma’s decision of bowling first was clearly on point as his bowlers were totally top-notch and in particular new spin twins Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja, picking up 7 wickets between them. Adding to the positive things, their slip catching was excellent where they took sharp catches throughout the match. Chasing a modest total of 114 runs, they experimented in their batting order where the star batter Virat Kohli wasn’t sent for batting, and even Rohit Sharma came in at No.7. In the end, they got home at the end of 22.5 overs after Ishan Kishan’s blazing half-century who opened along with Shubman Gill. Seems like they are on the course of winning the series 2-0 with a game left.
West Indies didn’t look comfortable against spin in the 1st ODI and suffered an embarrassing 5 wickets loss. Shot selection could have been better when they are facing a top-quality bowling attack and failed totally as a group. Although Brandon King, Alick Athanaze, Shai Hope, and Shimron Hetmyer got promising starts. Spinners Gudakesh Motie and Yannic Cariah somewhat pushed the game by bagging 3 wickets between them. Now they have left with no option and must win the 2nd ODI to stay alive in the series.
