Pre-Match Analysis:
Lead spinner Ravichandran Ashwin’s 12 wickets in a match and debutant Yashasvi Jaiswal’s decisive knock helped India to achieve a facile innings and 141 runs win in the 1st Test. Indians exploited the conditions to the maximum extent and are now unbeaten over the West Indies for more than 21 years in the longest format. Seniors cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli had to tweak their game style on the sluggish surface and scored 103 and 76 respectively. Ravindra Jadeja who was India’s frontline spinner in the WTC Final against Australia played a supporting hand for Ashwin, picking up 5 wickets in a match. Ishan Kishan who was another debutant didn’t have much to do with the bat however impressed with his glove work behind the stumps, affecting 2 dismissals. They might bench one of their seamers and bring back Axar Patel to strengthen the spin department.
West Indies make one change to their squad following their horrendous defeat in the 1st Test with Kevin Sinclair replacing Raymon Reifer. Barring Alick Athanaze no one looked convincing against top-quality spin in the opening game where they crumbled for 150 and 130 in the 1st and 2nd innings respectively. Their short selection wasn’t impressive at all as they threw their wickets away. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite used nine bowlers to get wickets but wasn’t successful. They need to show a tremendous amount of character with the bat in order to level the series 1-1.
