Ahead of the ODI series, where once again Team India go in as overwhelming favourites, TimesofIndia.com here takes a look at some of the most interesting historical statistics from the India vs West Indies ODI rivalry that began way back in 1979 at the ODI World Cup:
# India have won twelve bilateral series (seven in India and five in the Caribbean) in succession against West Indies between January 2007 and July 2022 in ODIs.
# The last time West Indies had won a bilateral ODI series against India was way back in 2006 by 4-1 in the Caribbean.
# Of the last ten result-oriented matches played between the two teams in the West Indies, India have won nine and lost one.
# India have won 18 out of the last 24 ODIs played against WI between 2015 and 2022 losing three. (Tied 1 and NR 2)

# The last eight ODIs between the two teams have resulted in Indian wins – by 107 runs at Visakhapatnam on December 18, 2019; by 4 wickets at Cuttack on December 22, 2019; by 6 wickets on February 6, by 44 runs on February 9 & by 96 runs on February 11 – all three at Ahmedabad in 2022; by 3 runs on July 22; by 2 wickets on July 24 & by 119 runs on July 26 – all three at Port of Spain in 2022.

# Patterson had taken 4 for 29 at Gwalior on 221-1988 to become the only WI bowler to produce a five-wicket haul apart from a four-wicket haul in the same bilateral series.
# Vivian Richards had captured six for 41 against India in Delhi on 23-10-1989. He remains the only West Indian captain to bag six wickets in an ODI innings vs India.

# Kohli’s consecutive hundreds being 111 not out at Kingston on 6-7-2017; 140 at Guwahati on 21-10-2018; 157 not out at Visakhapatnam on 24-10-2018 and 107 at Pune on 27-10-2018.
