‘India has truly embraced ChatGPT’, says OpenAI CEO Sam Altman

India has truly embraced ChatGPT, opined Open AI CEO Sam Altman on 7 June, adding there is a lot of early adoption and enthusiasm in the country, reported Economic Times.

Speaking to ET, Altman said, “India has truly embraced ChatGPT. A lot of early adoption and enthusiasm.”

Expressing his opinion on ChatGPT taking over jobs and leading to job losses, he said that every tech revolution leads to job change.

“I don’t think current AI systems are dangerous. GPT4 doesn’t pose an existential risk, but GPT4 might be a completely different thing,” he said.

On the issue of technology behind fake videos, Altman said, “There’s a lot of fear right now, about the impact this (technology) is going to have on our elections and our society. There is some fear, but as a society, we are going to rise to the occasion.”

Boasting India on the technological front, the OpenAI CEO said, “It is super impressive what India has done in terms of national tech and national assets.”

Apart from this, Altman also said that this is the most exciting time to start a company since the dawn of the internet. Asked if Indian startups can compete with bigger players like OpenAI, he said that in the short term, there is too much of a frenzy around AI, but it’s very under-hyped in the long term.

Meanwhile, Atlman is scheduled to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 8 June.

Among other things, Altman spoke about AI regulations, the biggest fear about AI, ethical choices for AI, etc.
