India likely to get its first hybrid flying car soon, will use biofuel – Times of India

Companies across the globe are in a race to make flying cars a reality and Chennai-based Vinata Aeromobility is all set to make a mark in that segment with its hybrid flying car. The company will unveil its autonomous vehicle on October 5 at the Helitech Exhibition in London.
Urban Air Mobility has been categorised into two parts — flying passenger cars and cargo. At the exhibition, the company will unveil a 2-seater flying car prototype along with an autonomous hybrid air cargo UAM (Urban Air Mobility) with a 200kg payload capacity.
How the car will ‘fly’ on biofuel
Biofuel is a type of energy resource that is derived from microbial, plant or animal materials and is easier to transport, deliver, and burn cleanly. Vinata Aeromobility claims that their flying car is more sustainable as it will use biofuel.
The hybrid flying car weighs 1100 kg and the company claims that it can handle a maximum takeoff weight of 1300 kg. Since it has an electric battery, this aircraft type of car is a hybrid electric VTOL. The car also gets a co-axial quad-rotor.
The car is claimed to have a range of 100 kilometres and a top speed of 120km/h. The company claims that the car has a maximum flight time of 60 minutes and it can fly at an altitude of 3,000 feet.
When it comes to safety, the car gets multiple motors and propellers. Therefore, if one or more propellers or motors fail, the remaining propellers and motors can land the flying car safely. In case there is a power interruption on the generator, the backup power will provide electricity to the motor. It also gets an ejection parachute with airbags enabled in the cockpit. The flying car, therefore, appears to be safe.
Indian Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently mentioned that flying cars would be used for transporting people and cargo in the near future. The upcoming UAMs are expected to boost revenue earning for India’s cargo industry.
