India rewrite record books with biggest-ever ODI win | Cricket News – Times of India
India outplayed the Lankans in the final match of the series as Rohit Sharma and co. sealed the game with the biggest victory margin ever in men’s ODI cricket history.
Kohli’s 46th ton — 110-ball 166* — and Siraj’s new ball-ball burst (4/32) were the highlights in India’s record-breaking win over the islanders.
As India posted a mammoth 390 for 5, a clueless Sri Lanka could only muster 73 for 9 in their 22 overs, with their no.10 not turning up due to injury.
The 317-run victory margin is now the highest ever, surpassing New Zealand’s 290-run win over Ireland in Aberdeen back in 2008.
The third highest victory margin is of 275 runs with which Australia defeated Afghanistan in Perth in 2015.
The target of 391 was always going to be difficult but the Lankans completely surrendered in front of pacer Mohammed Siraj, who bowled superbly with the new ball.
Siraj struck four times inside the first 10 overs, giving the Lankans absolutely no chance in the chase.
Mohammed Shami and Kuldeep Yadav grabbed a couple of wickets each as well in India’s memorable win.
