India star taunts Pakistan for ‘not trying’ after horror collapse at World Cup

India spinner Kuldeep Yadav claims Pakistan “were not trying too much” during their first innings horror show at the Cricket World Cup on Saturday. Pakistan’s middle and lower order fell apart to post a modest total of 191 in Ahmedabad.

Pakistan collapsed from 155-2 to 191 all out in front of a huge crowd at the Narendra Modi Stadium. They lost eight wickets for 36 runs in the space of just 13.1 overs.

Captain Babar Azam struck a half-century but his wicket, bowled by Mohammed Siraj, sparked a dramatic spell in the game. Kuldeep then came into his own, removing both Saud Shakeel and Iftikhar Ahmed in the same over.

It proved to be a crucial spell that Pakistan were never able to recover from. Jasprit Bumrah then got in on the act with the wickets of Mohammad Rizwan and Shadab Khan to all but end Pakistan’s hopes of posting a competitive score.

The innings was wrapped up quickly with over seven overs still remaining. Kuldeep gave his assessment immediately after the innings.

He claimed the pitch was difficult to bowl on, despite Pakistan posting just 191, and claimed their batters “were not trying” against his bowling. Kuldeep said: “I knew where to bowl and it was a difficult wicket to bowl on to be very honest, a bit on the slow side.

“[I was] just focusing on the length, they were not trying too much, just keeping within the wicket and just varying my pace and variations. I was just keeping tight within the wicket, they were not trying too much, especially Rizwan he didn’t sweep me at all.
