India vs England 2022, 5th Test: There’s nothing like playing well for India, says Ravindra Jadeja | Cricket News – Times of India
Earlier on Saturday, he completed a well deserved century (104) — a mature and responsible innings — to help India reach 416, which looked unlikely after he had joined Rishabh Pant at 98/5 on the opening day of the match.
“As a player, a hundred in England is very good. I was always thinking of leaving balls outside the off-stump, because discipline is important (in English conditions), otherwise you can get caught in the slips,” said Jadeja who is a left-arm spinner and more than adept at batting lower down the order.
“As a batsman, my self-confidence will go up.”
When questioned about his role as a spin bowler in the fourth innings of the Test, Jadeja joked: “It will be good if I have no role to play as a bowler. That will be best for the team. I am a team player.”
Speaking to the press, the 39-year-old James Anderson, who captured five wickets in India’s first innings, said: “The best line of defence (for England in their first innings) will be to attack.”
England were left wobbling at 84 for five by close of play on another rain-hit day, chiefly because of India’s stand-in skipper Jasprit Bumrah‘s three-wicket spell.

When asked if his team would be able to get out of this hole, Anderson said, “We have been in this position before this summer (against New Zealand).”
“Pant (146) played an amazing innings and Jadeja came into his own today,” he said, commenting on the Indian duo’s 222-run stand that scripted visitors’ comeback..
However, he felt England were unfortunate that a record 35 runs were scored in a Stuart Broad over, when Bumrah used the long handle to good effect.
“We were unlucky because of the dropped catch at fine leg. Nobody would have talked about it (Broad’s over) had that been taken,” said Anderson.
