Indian Table Tennis star Manika Batra loses baggage, sports equipment on flight while returning from Peru tournament; seeks govt help
Expressing her astonishment and frustration, Batra turned to social media to recount her ordeal. She utilized her official Twitter account to articulate her incredulousness regarding the situation, highlighting her amazement at the loss of her baggage despite having a priority tag. Batra’s grievances were directed toward the renowned Dutch flag carrier, KLM Airlines, whose staff at the airport appeared to be devoid of solutions and information regarding the whereabouts of her misplaced belongings.
In a poignant tweet, Batra mentioned, “Unbelievable disappointment with @KLM.! Priority-tagged baggage lost on a business class flight, including my essential sports kit for an upcoming tournament. Staff at the airport had no answers or any solutions & they had no idea where my bag is. @JM_Scindia sir pls help.”
Batra’s unfortunate incident transpired as she was returning from the WTT Contender tournament in Lima, during which she demonstrated her prowess by reaching the round of 32. Her match against Japan’s Miu Hirano, ranked 14th in the world, was a fierce competition, concluding with a score of 11-3, 11-7, 10-12, 6-11, 9-11 in favor of Hirano.
Beyond her personal achievements, Batra holds significant importance as one of India’s brightest medal prospects in the impending Asian Games, set to take place in Hangzhou, China. Alongside the experienced G Sathiyan, Batra stands as the seventh-ranked pair in mixed doubles. Their synchronized efforts are anticipated to lead India’s charge in the forthcoming Asian Games, scheduled from September 23 to October 8.
In a poignant plea for assistance, Batra has reached out to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, soliciting his intervention to aid in the recovery of her misplaced belongings. Her plea not only underscores the challenges faced by even the most accomplished athletes but also resonates with the dedication and determination that drives them to excel, despite adversities.
