Logan, Indiana Jones 5, and upcoming Star Wars director James Mangold is writing the script for DC’s Swamp Thing, one of the first movies in James Gunn’s and Peter Safran’s new DCU.
Speaking to Collider following the announcement of his brand new Star Wars film, Mangold confirmed for the first time that he’s working on Swamp Thing, though wouldn’t give much else away.
“The truth is I’m writing both [Swamp Thing and Star Wars] right now,” Mangold said. “Who knows what’s going to happen and what’s going to blossom first or second. “I’m acknowledging I’m doing Swamp Thing, there’s your scoop. It’s not a rumour. It’s happening.”

As mentioned by the writer director, Mangold was already rumoured to be writing Swamp Thing after posting a comic book illustration of the character back in February.
Swamp Thing will be part of the DCU’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters, taking its place as one of five films. These will be joined by five TV shows that will together represent the first step in Gunn’s and Safran’s new vision for DC films after the universe is reset in The Flash.
Superman: Legacy will be the first of these new films and hits theatres on July 11, 2025. It will be followed by The Authority, The Brave and the Bold (a Batman and Robin film), Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, and Swamp Thing, though not necessarily in that order. The TV shows will include Creature Commandos, Booster Gold, Waller, Paradise Lost, and Lanterns.
