India’s VFX Revolution: IGN India Chats With Baahubali Visual Effects Supervisor on Creating the Magical World of Mahishmathi

As part of India’s VFX Revolution series, IGN India has showcased how visual effects has changed the Indian film industry.

From the outlandish visual effects and stunts of Pathaan to the epic scale of Brahmastra, the series has helped shed light on how visual effects can amplify a film’s storytelling.

In our latest episode, we return to Pete Draper, who was part of the series’ debut episode, which revolved around S.S. Rajamouli’s magnum opus, RRR. With respects to the new episode, Draper talks about one of Rajamouli’s previous projects, Baahubali.

During the 2010s, Baahubali became a cultural phenomenon, which helped Rajamouli to become a household name in India. The film also made pan-India stars out of its cast, which included the likes of Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Ramya Krishnan, and more.

The latest episode delves deeper into Draper’s introduction to the world of Indian filmmaking, and how he became a part of S.S. Rajamouli’s films like Magadheera and Eega. The VFX supervisor also provides details on how Rajamouli lays out a film through his writers, concept artwork teams, and more.

Creating the world of Mahishmathi through VFX for Baahubali

In the video, Draper also talks about many of the film’s outrageous shots and sequences. This included the iconic scene of Krishnan’s Sivagami carrying a young Amarendra Baahubali in the river. He also shares more information on some of the other VFX work done on the film, like creating the vast kingdom of Mahishmathi.
