Indus: Everything You Need to Know About India’s First Battle Royale Game

SuperGaming surprised the Indian gaming market by announcing their take on the battle royale genre with an exciting looking, Indian-themed shooter called Indus. SuperGaming calls the project their “made-in-India for-the-world battle royale”. Not much has been revealed but here’s all that we know:

Gameplay

Indus, at the moment, is a first-person shooter, but developers are planning for both FPP and TPP as development progresses. Like most shooters, you can expect a variety of guns at launch. These include — but are not limited to — assault rifles, hand cannons, and even snipers to name a few. SuperGaming has also revealed the first concept art for Ashvini, their double-barrel, burst-fire sniper rifle.

Lore

Players take on the mantle of Mythwalker, a hired gun working for COVEN, an intergalactic syndicate that discovered an ancient yet scientifically advanced world called Indus. The constantly shifting ecosystem and natural wealth of the world have drawn the attention of COVEN, looking to harvest it for material gain. One can surmise, from this snippet of lore, that players will have to either work together to gather resources and battle denizens of Indus or face off against in each other in teams to gather as many resources as possible and survive till the end.

Map

The planet of Indus is a mystery to most spacefaring civilisations. It’s a collection of untouched, unexplored, and ever-changing islands. All the action in Indus takes place on an ever-changing island map called Virlok, so players should think on their feet and adapt their strategies to a map like this.

Platforms

SuperGaming plans to launch Indus on PC, mobile, and consoles. They released a statement saying they want to focus on a stellar and cross-compatible experience for their mobile user-base. Most mainstream Android and iOS devices should be able to run the game seamlessly when available.

Monetisation

Indus is a free-to-play game which may make use of Battle Passes and in-app purchases. Progression mechanics are yet to be determined by the dev team.

More about the dev team and Indus

Indus runs on Unity as a base engine with a fully custom-built sandbox shooter tech stack called the Indus Engine. Since their team has previously worked well with Unity, as well as the ease of producing mobile games in Unity, the dev team plan to leverage their experience to create an iconic experience for both the Indian and Global player-bases.

There has been no announcement for a Beta for Indus but the dev team are confident that a playable version will be available by the end of 2022.
