Instagram fixes this bug affecting iPhone users – Times of India

Meta-owned Instagram has announced that it has fixed a bug that was crashing the app for some iPhone users. Instagram confirmed on its Twitter handle that the issue has been patched by a new update (version 255.0) for the photo-sharing app on iOS. The company has also recommended users to download the latest update only from the App Store.

How this new bug affected iPhone users
Recently, multiple iPhone users took to Twitter and other platforms to report that they were affected by an issue that crashed Instagram a few seconds after they tapped the app’s icon.

Users explained that whenever they tried to open Instagram, the app displayed the launch screen for a few seconds before it crashed and stopped working for them. After the crash, users were taken back to their iOS home screen.

Other users reported that rebooting their iPhones or reinstalling the Instagram app also didn’t solve the problem. Affected iPhone owners were using the “instagramcrash” hashtag on Twitter to share their reports regarding the issue.

Some users even shared videos showing this issue on Twitter. These reports prompted Instagram to quickly release an update that will squash the bug. The only way for iPhone users (who couldn’t access their Instagram accounts on their smartphones) to access Instagram was through a web browser.

Recently, the Meta-owned photo-sharing platform rewarded an Indian student Rs 38 lakhs for discovering a dangerous bug that could have been exploited by hackers to access social media accounts.

Recently, Meta announced that it is introducing new formats and ad placements on the app. It claimed that these new formats are being introduced for advertisers to “connect better with users on Instagram.”
