Instagram IGTV App: Instagram shutting down IGTV app to boost Reels – Times of India
With its recent moves, Facebook has made it clear that the company will be focusing on short-video format Reels going forward. Moving on that path, Instagram has now announced that it is ending support for its standalone app for IGTV. As per TechCrunch, the company will remove the app from app stores next month. The move comes a few months after the Meta owned platform combined the IGTV video concept and feed video in a single entity called Instagram Video. “We will focus on having all video on the main Instagram app. We believe that this makes it easier for people to have all of these features and abilities in the main app, and are excited to continue to simplify and improve video in the main Instagram app over the coming months.” read the company’s blog.
Apart from this, the company is bringing features such as a full-screen viewer and the option to tap to mute. Instagram is also working to create one way to share your videos, bringing together creation tools and offering new ways to discover content. The platform will also begin testing a new ad experience, which will allow creators to earn revenue from ads displayed on their reels. The revenue from the ads will be in addition to the bonus.
For those who are unaware, videos posted on the feed can now be 60 minutes long. Before the change, the length was reserved for IGTV videos only and to view those videos users had to leave the main application.
Users can now simply upload videos up to 60 minutes long by tapping on the ‘+’ at the top right corner of the home page. Video preview on the main page is now 60 seconds long and the preview is restricted to 15 seconds if it is eligible as an advertisement.
